How to Transfer Funds to Your MetaTrader 5 Account

Money does not move to MetaQuotes when a user funds MetaTrader 5. It moves through the broker that opened the trading account. The trading platform may display Payments, open a broker dashboard, or show no funding control.

That distinction shapes every deposit, withdrawal, and internal transfer. The route depends on the broker’s setup, the active MT5 account, and the available methods. This guide covers each route before clients start trading.

Getting Started: Where Does MT5 Funding Actually Happen?

MT5 Is the Interface, Not the Holder of Client Money

A real account is opened by a brokerage company and maintained on its trade server. MetaQuotes supplies the software, but the brokerage company manages the balance. Any funding activities must pass through the broker and its approved providers.

The MT5 platform does not support independent custody of client money. Put another way, the platform does not support direct payments outside the broker’s infrastructure. It may provide the interface for an operation, but it does not become a bank, payment processor, or counterparty to the client’s investment.

An MT5 Wallet Is Usually a Broker Wallet

“MT5 wallet” is common search language, not a universal MetaQuotes product. A provider may use the term for a client-area balance, while the terminal shows funds assigned to a particular account.

That work includes routing, identity checks, reconciliation, and account management. The same MT5 interface can therefore lead to different payment journeys.

How to Deposit Money Into an MT5 Account

A Step-by-Step Route to Fund the Active Trading Account

To deposit funds, the route may begin in Navigator, the broker’s client area, or a link opened from MT5. A payment credited to one account will not automatically appear in another.

  1. Connect to the intended live account and verify the broker name and server.
  2. Open Navigator → Payments if it is available, or sign in to the broker’s official dashboard.
  3. Select Deposit and confirm that the correct account is active.
  4. Specify the amount, deposit currency, payment method, and email if requested.
  5. Click Continue, complete the provider’s authorization, and confirm the payment.
  6. Return to the payment history and review the request status before trying again.

Options may include a payment card, e-wallet, local transfer, or wire transfer. Each appears only when the broker and its payment system make it available.

If currencies differ, the amount may be converted when credited. A successful card authorization does not mean the balance will update instantly. Further review can delay it.

Available Deposit Methods for MT5

MT5 does not maintain one universal list of deposit methods. Depending on the broker and jurisdiction, the available route may include debit or credit cards, bank transfers, e-wallets, local payment systems, or other approved services. The options shown in Payments or the client dashboard are the ones enabled for that account. A method demonstrated in another broker’s tutorial may not appear at Versus Trade.

Minimum Deposit Requirements Come From the Broker

MetaQuotes does not set a minimum deposit for an MT5 account. The threshold comes from the broker, account type, payment method, and sometimes the client’s jurisdiction. Versus Trade currently advertises a $10 minimum for its Standard account, but that figure should not be treated as a platform-wide MT5 rule. Other account categories or payment channels can apply different limits.

How Broker Policies Change MT5 Deposit Requirements

Broker policies determine accepted currencies, minimum and maximum amounts, account-verification requirements, third-party payment restrictions, conversion rules, and whether a method is available for withdrawal later. They can also require the payment source to match the verified account holder. The relevant terms are those attached to the legal entity and account being funded, not the generic capabilities of MT5.

Why the Payments Menu May Be Missing

Some brokers enable Payments. Others open their website or keep the process in the client portal. Its absence is not necessarily a faulty setting. The brokerage side controls the feature, so local preferences will not enable the option.

Before sending money, the relevant details are:

  • The active account, server, and account holder name
  • Verification status and any applicable funding limits
  • Accepted payment method and deposit currency
  • Currency-conversion terms and possible provider costs
  • The official payment-page domain and transaction reference

A provider may support direct deposits through its portal without exposing Payments in MT5. When the route remains unclear, contact your broker rather than following a third-party video from another company.

Mobile Funding Still Follows the Broker’s Route

The MetaTrader mobile app can connect to a trading account and show broker-enabled controls. A funding request may still open the client portal or a separate secure page. The phone version does not create an alternative payment channel.

Test the platform and confirm the available account controls before transferring real money.

Can You Transfer Funds Between Accounts in MT5?

When the Transfer Funds Command Appears

MT5 can store multiple accounts from different brokers in one Navigator window, but their balances remain separate. The command appears only when transfers are enabled on the trade server, and money can be sent only from the account currently connected in the platform. If OTP authentication is enabled for the sending account, its one-time password is also required.

In the desktop platform, select the currently connected account in the Navigator window, right-click it, and choose Transfer Funds from the context menu. The command appears only if transfers are enabled on the trade server and cannot be activated through local platform settings. Accounts listed in the same Navigator window cannot necessarily exchange funds.

The Accounts Must Meet the Server Rules

The official MetaTrader 5 help documentation places strict conditions on an internal transfer:

  • Both accounts must be on the same trade server and use the same deposit currency
  • Transfers run real-to-real or demo-to-demo, not between different account types
  • The amount cannot exceed the current balance or available free margin
  • The master password must be entered for both accounts
  • One-time authentication is additionally required when OTP is active
  • Server rules may limit transfers to accounts with matching names and email addresses

The transaction appears as a withdrawal balance operation on one account and a deposit on the other. If the command is absent, support can identify the account, currency, identity, or server restriction.

“Men who can both be right and sit tight are uncommon. I found it one of the hardest things to learn. But it is only after a stock operator has firmly grasped this that he can make big money. It is literally true that millions come easier to a trader after he knows how to trade than hundreds did in the days of his ignorance.”

An American journalist, writer, and diplomat  —  Edwin Lefèvre,

Reminiscences of a Stock Operator, The Sun Dial Press, 1923.

The passage concerns patience, not funding. Its narrower relevance here is that moving capital creates capacity to trade, but neither leverage nor available cash creates profit.

How to Withdraw Money From MetaTrader 5

Where to Submit a Withdrawal Request

To withdraw money from MetaTrader 5, the client uses the broker’s route: Payments, a Navigator link, or the client dashboard. MetaTrader itself does not send the bank transfer.

The next screen may ask the client to select a saved card, e-wallet, bank transfer, or another approved channel. Details can appear inside the platform or on a secure provider page. The withdrawal remains subject to broker checks and processing.

Instructions may promise money from MetaTrader 5 in a few taps, but those taps only initiate the request. The broker processes it, credit funds cannot be withdrawn, and its terms apply.

Why the Withdrawable Amount May Be Lower Than the Balance

Balance, equity, free margin, and withdrawable amount are different. Open positions reserve margin, while broker credit, bonuses, charges, or checks may reduce what is available to withdraw funds from.

No universal MT5 formula settles the answer. Internal transfers are limited by balance and free margin; external withdrawals may face more conditions. Closing a profitable trade changes the balance but does not bypass them.

How Long Does a Deposit or Withdrawal Take?

Electronic approval can be quick, while review and settlement take longer. A wire transfer is commonly processed manually and may spend several business days in the banking system. Weekends, incorrect details, conversion, and intermediary banks add time.

Versus Trade states on its current deposits and withdrawals page that requests are processed on its side around the clock, while the payment system may require additional time. That is not a promise that every transaction will arrive instantly. The individual status remains the reliable indicator.

Why Is an MT5 Deposit or Withdrawal Pending?

Common MT5 Deposit Problems and Troubleshooting

A failed deposit often comes down to an unverified account, mismatched cardholder data, an unsupported currency, an issuer decline, a funding limit, or an interrupted redirect. Repeating the payment immediately can create duplicate authorizations. The useful evidence is the payment ticket, provider reference, confirmation email, and status shown in the broker dashboard. MT5 history contains only payments initiated through the terminal’s connected payment flow; transactions completed by other routes may appear only in the client area.

Withdrawal was rejectedDetails, method, or verification did not meet requirementsBroker support
Balance was debited but money has not arrivedTransfer remains in transitBroker, then payment provider

The transaction ticket helps support identify the request. Full card numbers, wallet passwords, and the account’s master password should never be sent in chat or email. MetaQuotes cannot resolve a broker payment dispute because it does not manage the transaction.

Basic Funding Security

Payment pages should open from the official broker website, client portal, or platform link. Requests to send money to a staff member’s personal card or wallet fall outside a normal broker flow. Third-party funding can also trigger ownership and verification problems.

Rules differ across jurisdictions, so regulated brokers must be tied to the legal entity and regulator serving the account. A virtual server only keeps trading applications online; it never needs card details or a banking password.

Can a Demo Account Receive Real Money?

No. Demo accounts can be opened with virtual funds for simulated trading. Their balances are not deposits, and any displayed profit cannot be withdrawn. A live account must be opened and administered by a broker before real funds can reach the market.

Can MT5 Automatically Move Money Between Different Brokers?

No. Accounts listed in the same Navigator do not share a wallet. The internal function is limited to eligible accounts on one server. Moving money between brokers normally requires a withdrawal from the first company followed by a new deposit through the second company’s approved route.

Do I Need the Master Password to Make a Deposit?

The account password provides trading authorization, while a payment provider can require separate verification. The internal transfer feature requires the master passwords of both eligible accounts. Broker support should never ask a client to disclose that password.

Fund the Right Account Through the Right Channel

MT5 can make funding easier to reach, but the broker still determines the method, checks, limits, and processing path. The correct account, an official payment page, and a traceable transaction status matter more than where the first button appears.

Current platform access and publicly available funding information can be reviewed at Versus Trade before money is transferred.

Review the available funding methods and withdrawal conditions, connect the correct MT5 account, and test the platform workflow before committing trading capital.
